Auriculotherapy is similar to ear acupuncture but uses no needles. A microcurrent stimulator is placed on reflex points on the outside ear. Patients may feel a tingling sensation but the therapy does not hurt. These reflex points then send a message to the brain based on the location of the reflex point being treated. The production of natural pain relieving endorphins and enkephalins are stimulated, resulting in a better sense of well-being and relaxation.
Auriculotherapy is also known as auricular medicine. It's beginnings date back to early Chinese medicine and became popular in western medicine in1950 by French neurologist, Dr. Paul Nogier, M.D. It is used by practitioners all over the world with excellent results. It is used widely for pain control, addictions of all kinds, internal disorders, emotional issues, and a host of other problems. Chiropractors, medical doctors, acupuncturists, naturopaths, and dentists routinely see excellent results from properly applied auricular treatments.
In 1990, the Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO) proclaimed that Auricular therapy is “probably the most developed and best documented, scientifically, of all the “micro-systems” of acupuncture and is the most practical and widely used.”
The World Health Organization(WHO) lists 150 conditions for which Auricular therapy is appropriate. Examples include various neurological and orthopedic disorders such as: headaches, migraines, Trigeminal Neuralgia, facial paralysis, peripheral neuropathy, Meniere’s disease, intercostal neuralgia, tennis elbow, sciatica, lumbar pain, rheumatoid arthritis, cancer pain, dry mouth, hot flashes, etc. It has also been successful in helping people with chronic allergies.
Auriculotherapy is often effective when other treatments have failed. Best of all, it is safe, non-invasive and has no known side effects. Auriculotherapy is contraindicated for pregnant mothers, pacemakers or other electrical implanted devices.
Auriculotherapy has even been used to treat pain for cancer patients when prescription medicine was ineffective. A research study involving 90 cancer patients was published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology (Vol 21, Issue 22 (November), 2003: 4120-4126). The scientists concluded that there was a clear benefit from auricular treatment for cancer related pain.
Quit Smoking Program
Auricular therapy is a proven, effective tool to help you quit smoking by minimizing cravings and calming the nervous system. Auricular therapy works on any nicotine related habit. Chew, nicotine gum, e-cigarettes (they contain nicotine) etc. Nicotine is an addictive chemical found in cigarettes, etc. This treatment therapy electronically stimulates points on the ear that send a message to the brain that acts like a reset button for your nicotine receptors. In most cases, relief of cravings is noticed immediately after just ONE treatment!
